Martijn Fokker rejoins our design department
This is a man who loves the impossible. After seven years, we welcome Martijn Fokker back to the Comtest family. “I have been working at Comtest for 16 years and thought it was time for something different, but there’s something about these chamber projects that kept me coming back,” says Martijn.

A new advancement in automating RVC testing in our chambers with the Rohde & Schwarz ELEKTRA software: an excellent tool to accelerate your measurements and enhance their reliability. The R&S ELEKTRA test software is a valuable solution for automating RVC test methods, streamlining testing processes and delivering unparalleled efficiency and accuracy.
As Reiner Goetz, Product Manager at Rohde & Schwarz, explains, “The complexity of immunity testing has shifted to software when using a reverberation chamber, and R&S®ELEKTRA is a great tool to automate your testing and make your measurements faster and more reliable. Rohde & Schwarz also provides fully compliant EMI test receivers, broadband amplifiers, signal generators, antennas, and other essential system components for immunity and emission testing in reverb chambers.”
For closed-loop power control (Annex G of ISO 11451-5): R&S®ELEKTRA provides a specialised interface to seamlessly support field probes seamlessly, enabling faster evaluation of statistical field strength in the RVC. Key measurement parameters, such as threshold levels for the cumulative distribution function, can be configured. The precise control improves measurement efficiency, and comprehensive E-field statistics are included in reporting.
Bas de Groot, Owner of Comtest Engineering, shares on RVC chamber design, “A reverb room is equipped with an integrated mode stirrer system that turns stepwise or continuously during testing. The benefits of reverb chambers include high repeatability, the ability to test heavy and large EUTs, and a better representation of real-life environments. Applying fast stirring enables you to significantly reduce the time required for conducting an immunity test on your product by up to a quarter. The latest designs of the Comtest stirrer systems are perfect for fast stirring. They are compliant with expected future requirements to test emissions of multimedia equipment according to CISPR 32 and full vehicles.”
As real-world electromagnetic environments evolve due to the rise of highly integrated electronic products and numerous interference sources, traditional two-dimensional testing methods fall short in addressing these complex scenarios. This shift highlights the growing demand for RVCs that can effectively simulate these intricate electromagnetic environments and tackle EMC testing challenges. R&S®ELEKTRA emerges as a valuable and ideal tool for testing within RVCs, providing the automation and precision needed to navigate these complexities effectively.
