Martijn Fokker rejoins our design department
This is a man who loves the impossible. After seven years, we welcome Martijn Fokker back to the Comtest family. “I have been working at Comtest for 16 years and thought it was time for something different, but there’s something about these chamber projects that kept me coming back,” says Martijn.

Emission and immunity are two fundamental concepts in EMC measurements. Together with Bosch Home Comfort in Deventer, we built a shielded room to test their devices specifically for radiated immunity.Â
Responsible Technical Consultant Marc Le Roy explains the concepts and why professionals can be confused about the proper testing solution.
Marc: “Both aspects are essential for achieving robust EMC performance, ensuring devices do not disrupt each other and operate reliably in various conditions. Emission is the (unintentional) release of electromagnetic energy from a device into its surroundings. On the other hand, immunity relates to a device’s ability to withstand external electromagnetic interference without malfunctioning. This is particularly important in environments where multiple devices operate simultaneously and may influence each other, such as the heat pumps and gas boilers developed by Bosch Home Comfort.”
Richard Borkent, Project Leader at Bosch Home Comfort Group, worked closely with the internal engineering department on the procurement and implementation of the EMC test chamber, ensuring it fulfilled all functional requirements.
Richard explains the motivation behind developing the new facility: “We develop heating solutions such as heat pumps and gas boilers. As we have recently built a completely new R&D centre, we wanted to integrate an EMC test chamber that allows the engineering teams to test whenever and as often as needed. Having an in-house EMC test facility provides full flexibility and independence from external test sites, significantly reducing lead times and enabling faster, more efficient research. Comtest supported us in designing a chamber specifically optimised for radiated immunity testing. These tests are performed on fully operational heating appliances under realistic operating conditions. Together with Comtest, we developed a facility that perfectly matches our needs.”
Bosch Home Comfort recently opened a new R&D centre in Deventer. The facility enables advanced research and development on hydrogen boilers, natural gas boilers, and heat pumps, contributing to the innovation of sustainable heating technologies for the future.
